| "Bob" came into my life at one and half years of age, just a scruffy little mutt that was given to me becasue he had nowhere else to go. His breeder and his owner both despaired that he would never make a show dog. I was looking for a little dog of my own I could play around with in the rings, I had already been showing for dogs for other people for a few years and I wanted some of the glory and expense, too! More glory than expense really, but we all know both go hand in hand. No pressure, I would have been very happy with a dog that could place maybe fourth in the group once a weekend - that would be great! Just a nice little average Special. Bob gave me that, and so much more!!!! He finished his Canadian Championship in three weekends in the worst coat you've ever seen on a Cairn! What did I know about stripping a dog??! (Nothing..) It was a learning process. I discovered the joys of "creating" the perfect show dog and the great stress reliever that working a coat can be. It certainly did not hurt to have an artistic eye when learning about rolling the coat - I used to get show photos backin the mail and look at them closely, then pull out my grooming table and poor Bob would get a working over to fix the little problems I saw in those pictures. Anyway, Bob was a great little dog and certainly nobody could ask for a better "first show dog"! His ring accomplishments are listed below. |
