Several years ago Connie took a course in creating stained glass pieces. She designed several of her own traditional stained glass creations but found that it lacked the realism she so highly cherishes. However, armed with her equipment and knowledge of cutting and soldering the glass, Connie decided to try to treat this medium much the same as her paintings on Agate. Just like the agate, every piece of glass is totally unique. It also has the added bonuses of being lighter weight, more inexpensive to purchase and it comes in a much larger variety of colors and transparencies. Connie cuts each piece of glass to best fit the shape of the animal being painted on it, so she never runs out of sizes as can sometimes happen with the stone!
It all starts with a sheet of glass. It is cut to size and shape, the edges are ground smooth and then foil is applied to give the piece a finished look. Hooks can be added at this time to hang the finished product on the wall, or they can also be left off if the purchaser prefers to display the glass on a stand. The finished edge can be silver, copper, or black in color.
The painting is protected with a clear high gloss epoxy varnish. |
